Journey of a Seeker

All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. May His salawat and salutations be upon our Master Muhammad, the messenger of Allah and the one who taught us that which we know, and upon his pure family and all the scholars and sages they produced, as well as upon the companions and their followers, all of them. amma ba’d. . .

As you may be aware, the annual dawrah at Dar al-Mustafa [sallaLlahu 'alayhi wa alihi wa sallam], which takes place during the summer holiday months, has officially begun (as of the 2nd July 2011), along with it’s rawhah durus — after ‘asr, spirituality-related lessons. The text being studied, as with last year, remains the Qut ‘l-Qulub (Sustenance of the Hearts) of Imam Abu Talib al-Makki [may Allah have mercy on him], relating to the importance of action in accordance with the shari’ah, repentance and the supererogatory (nafl) righteous devotion of the rightly-guided sufis. Habib ‘Umar (may Allah preserve him)’s ancestor, and the ancestor of all his Ba ‘Alawi teachers for that matter, took the book directly from its author, Abu Talib, and thus the chain of transmission is completed. This ancestor was Imam ‘Ubayd ‘Llah b. [Imam] Ahmad [al-Muhajir] b. [Imam]  ‘Isa b. [Imam] Muhammad b. [Imam] ‘Ali [al-'Uraydhi] b. [Imam] Ja’far [as-Sadiq] b. [Imam] Muhammad [al-Baqir] b. [Imam] ‘Ali [Zayn al-'Abidin] b. [Imam] al-Husayn b. [Imam] ‘Ali b. Abi Talib wa ['s-sayyidah] Fatimah [az-Zahra'] bint. Rasul ‘Llah sallaLlahu ‘alayhi wa alihi wa sallam.
